Anxious, Wired, Exhaustion: Why It’s Not All in Your Head

For the last two decades, I’ve navigated an underlying state of wired anxiety and fatigue. I had done the deep emotional work, cleared ancestral traumas, and employed every energetic tool in my shed—yet a background hum of tension kept re-emerging.

Recently, by grace, I received the missing answer. The tenacious block wasn't emotional anymore—it was physical.

The Biological Cost of Pushing Through

Beneath the stress was a severe, unrecognized iron deficiency that, over time, caused my thyroid to fail. I was prescribed medication and took it for over twelve years. That high-voltage synthetic stimulation revved me up enough to keep me going, sort of, but truthfully, I never felt quite right.

I was in what most would consider decent physical condition but I didn’t feel strong. I willed myself through long runs and gym workouts but my athletic performances were stagnant.

And then my adrenals completely burned out.

I finally realized the anxiety wasn’t a lack of emotional regulation, I was deeply exhausted. Physically running on empty. Forcing my adrenals to pump adrenaline just to keep moving. I was trapped in survival mode.

Unwinding a longstanding biological contraction is arduous work. It required me to face many days that the modern world might judge as "unproductive."

But in the quiet of this recovery, I realized something that you may benefit from hearing: My only job was to get well. That was my work.

Choosing Healing from the Anxious, Edgy, Exhaustion Over the Endless To-Do List

Executing the endless task list - emails, outer-focused "doing" - from an exhausted state gets us nowhere. True change happens when we stop forcing our physical vehicle, return to our essential nature, and act from there.

Turning inward and allowing real adrenal fatigue recovery takes radical boldness, especially when the ego is addicted to "doing" to prove its worth.

For example, one day I caught myself trapped in an old, automatic pattern—worrying that my husband would judge me for doing things differently - meditating when there was "work" to be done.

In that moment, I chose to witness the guilt rather than be a victim of it. I stepped away from doubt, sat down, and boldly meditated. Because I knew that was what my body required to heal.

Stepping Out of the Survival Loop

I’m not completely there yet, but I’m getting closer every day. I'm off thyroid medication and my iron level is building. My energy is rising not through sheer individual will, but through absolute trust and surrender to life working through me.

We cannot hold a sustainable space of success, deep connection, and service while our biology is locked in a chronic survival loop.

If you have been forcing yourself to operate from tired, contracted, or depleted energy, consider this permission to stop. Aligning your energy and honoring your body's timing is infinitely more powerful than any task list.

What's your experience?

  • Have you been trying to "mind-over-matter" a body that is screaming for real, physical rest?

  • Are you using adrenaline to force yourself to keep running on empty?
